Microsoft  Imagine Cup

May 3rd 2010 COMAS' Department of Computer Science hosted the Israeli finals of the Microsoft  Imagine Cup, the global student technology competition focused on finding solutions to real-world issues. The competition encourages the world's most talented software designers, programmers, game developers, and digital media enthusiasts to tackle, head on, issues related to: hunger relief, poverty, education, disease control, healthcare, the environment, and other crucial problems facing our world today.

Students from the COMAS Deaprtment of Computer Science were placed third among the 80 projects presented. The first two places went to students from the Technion.

Israel Prize 2010 to Prof. Yair Aharoni

At the 2010 Israel Prize ceremony on Independence Day, Prof. Yair Aharoni, former Rector of COMAS and current member of the Board of Trustees, received the prize for Management and Administrative Sciences for the year 2010.  

 

Honorary Degree Ceremony - 2009

A formal ceremony was held on the campus of the College of Management on October 20, 2009, at which honorary degrees were awarded to six outstanding honorees – five men and one woman – all of whom have set themselves apart through their talents, and by the example that they have set for the rest of us:

 

The conductor Zubin Mehta, one of the most significant and acclaimed musicians of his generation, received an honorary degree as an expression of our esteem for his unparalleled contribution to music and culture in Israel and abroad, for his wonderful music direction, for standing before the lectern in Israel for forty years, and for his frank and unconditional love and friendship for the State of Israel and its residents.

 

The artist Yaacov Agam received an honorary degree as an expression of our esteem and respect for his artistic innovations in painting and sculpture, for his incorporation of the fourth dimension of time and movement, for spearheading the kinetic art movement, for the visual and artistic expression that he gave to the Jewish conception of reality; and for his works, which have enriched and beautified, though his artwork and colors, houses, streets, and open spaces in Israel and around the world.

 

Shlomo Yanai, CEO of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., received an honorary degree as an expression of our esteem for his excellent and exceptional administration of a global business; for his exemplary leadership, strategic planning ability, and excellence in conducting complex dialogues concerning partnerships, acquisitions, and mergers; and for his decision-making ability and talent for setting goals and choosing objectives, at the heart of which was doubling the company's research and development budget.

 

Professor Michael Sela, one of the greatest scientists and researchers of our time, received an honorary degree as an expression of our esteem and respect for his scientific theories and breakthroughs in chemical immunology research and for his important contribution to developing our understanding of immunological processes and systems in the body; for the discoveries and studies that led to the development of drugs for incurable autoimmune diseases; and for his incredible contribution to the development of the sciences of biochemistry, molecular biology, and immunology.

 

Galia Maor, CEO of Bank Leumi, received an honorary degree as an expression of our esteem and respect for her strong leadership and administrative capability in leading Bank Leumi through the turbulent waters of the global banking crisis – the worst in eighty years – to safe harbors while improving profits, the capital adequacy ratio, and the raising of capital; for the ability to make decisions and a business acumen that, despite the global financial crisis, led to growth in the various bank operations and an increase in its market share in every segment and sector; and for her administrative stability, organizational consistency, and fairness toward managers, bank employees, and customers alike.

 

Professor Meir Heth, one of the founders of the College of Management's School of Law, and a senior faculty member for many years, received an honorary degree as an expression of our esteem and respect for his decisive contribution to improving the banking structure in Israel and for his tireless efforts to increase fair competition on one hand and maintain bank stability on the other; for his participation in founding the School of Law, for being an exemplary intellectual and ethical figure among its senior faculty, and for his generosity and broad-mindedness toward the school; and for being a leader and guide of the Israeli financial industry, the trustees of bondholders, security underwriters, and banking legislation.
